A freight train carrying diesel fuel and Russian fertilizer departed from Azerbaijan for Armenia today, marking a continuation of regional logistics cooperation. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the shipment consists of 31 wagons loaded with 1,984 tons of diesel fuel and 2 wagons carrying 135 tons of fertilizer. The train departed from the Bilejari station of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, heading toward the Boyuk Kasik station.
The cargo is scheduled to be delivered to Armenia via transit through the territory of Georgia. Notably, this shipment marks the first time that Russian fertilizer is being transported to Armenia in transit through Azerbaijan. This follows a series of recent energy exports; on February 25, Azerbaijan dispatched 39 tank wagons carrying 4,500 tons of diesel to Armenia. Earlier, on January 11, 18 wagons with 979 tons of AI-92 motor fuel were sent, following a January 9 shipment of 2,698 tons of petroleum products, including AI-95 gasoline and diesel.
The export of fuel to Armenia began on December 18, 2025, with an initial delivery of 1,220 tons of AI-95 gasoline. These operations follow a landmark decision by President Ilham Aliyev in October 2025 to lift long-standing restrictions on the transit of goods from Azerbaijan to Armenia, which had been in place since the period of occupation. This shift in logistics policy reflects the evolving geopolitical landscape in the South Caucasus, aimed at fostering regional connectivity and economic integration following the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.
