Ignazio Cassis, a member of the Swiss Federal Council and head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, who is currently on an official visit to Azerbaijan, has visited the Alley of Martyrs in Baku.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Swiss official paid tribute to the memory of the heroic sons of the Motherland who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. He laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument.
Following the ceremony, the Swiss official viewed the panoramic view of the Azerbaijani capital. He was briefed on the history of the Alley of Martyrs, its significance in the collective memory of the Azerbaijani people, and the extensive urban development and reconstruction projects currently underway in Baku.
The Alley of Martyrs serves as a solemn memorial site dedicated to those who lost their lives during the tragic events of January 1990 and the subsequent conflicts for the restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty. It remains a site of national importance, frequently visited by foreign dignitaries to demonstrate respect for the country's history and its path to independence.
