Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have officially welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, describing it as a critical step toward de-escalation in the Middle East.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media outlets, that the Pakistani leadership views the cessation of hostilities as a vital move for regional security. President Zardari stated that the ceasefire in Lebanon represents a significant advancement toward reducing tensions and fostering stability. "Pakistan supports the sovereignty of Lebanon and continues to back efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and the US to achieve lasting peace in the region," Zardari noted.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed these sentiments, expressing hope that the truce would pave the way for a sustainable peace process. "Pakistan reaffirms its unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon and will continue to support all efforts to end the war in the Middle East," the Prime Minister emphasized. The diplomatic breakthrough follows an announcement by US President Donald Trump, who confirmed that Israel and Lebanon had reached a formal ceasefire agreement.
The ceasefire comes amid a period of heightened volatility in the Middle East, where international mediators have been working to prevent a broader regional conflict. Pakistan, which maintains a principled stance on Middle Eastern affairs, has frequently called for diplomatic solutions to territorial and security disputes in the Levant. This latest agreement is seen by international observers as a potential turning point that could facilitate humanitarian aid delivery and the return of displaced populations on both sides of the border.
