The flag of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Golani Brigade and the national flag of Israel have been raised over Beaufort Castle, located in southern Lebanon.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this development was confirmed by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, citing information from The Times of Israel.
According to the Minister, the soldiers of the Golani Brigade returned to the castle to hoist the Israeli and brigade flags as part of an event marking the 44th anniversary of the Battle of Beaufort, which took place in 1982.
Established in 1948, the Golani Brigade is considered one of the most prominent infantry units of the Israeli military.
Beaufort Castle, a medieval fortress situated on a strategic height near the village of Arnoun in southern Lebanon, has served as a significant military outpost in the region for many years. The castle was utilized by various Palestinian armed groups at different times and came under Israeli control during the 1982 Israeli military intervention in Lebanon. Until the Israeli army's withdrawal from southern Lebanon in 2000, the Beaufort area remained part of the security zone established by Israel.
