Iraq has decided to extend the closure of its airspace for an additional three days as a precautionary measure due to ongoing military strikes by the United States and Israel against targets in Iran.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing international media outlets, that the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority issued a formal statement confirming the suspension of all flight operations for a further 72 hours.
According to the official announcement, the closure will remain in effect until 12:00 PM local time on Friday, April 3. This decision follows Iraq's initial move on February 28 to shut down its airspace for 24 hours in response to the escalation of hostilities in the region. Since then, the restriction has been extended multiple times to ensure the safety of civil aviation amid the volatile security situation.
The regional instability has prompted several neighboring countries to adjust their flight corridors and security protocols. Iraq, which shares a significant border with Iran, remains a critical transit point for international air travel between Europe and Asia. The continued closure reflects the heightened state of alert in the Middle East as US President Donald Trump and Israeli leadership coordinate strategic operations in the region, impacting global logistics and regional stability.
