India has summoned the Deputy Ambassador of Iran, Mohammad Javad Hosseini, to the Ministry of External Affairs following the death of an Indian sailor in Omani waters.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the NDTV news channel and Indian government officials, that the diplomat was summoned to lodge a formal protest regarding Iranian attacks on oil tankers.
According to the reports, the incident resulted in one fatality and left eight others injured, six of whom are Indian nationals. It was previously reported that two tankers, identified as "Mombasa" and "Al Bahiyah," were struck by Iranian cruise missiles south of the Strait of Hormuz in the waters of Oman.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime chokepoint, serving as a vital artery for global energy supplies. Tensions in these waters have historically impacted international shipping routes and regional security, prompting increased diplomatic scrutiny from nations whose citizens and commercial interests are affected by such escalations.
