Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has issued a sharp response to US President Donald Trump regarding a recent social media post concerning the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Gharibabadi addressed President Trump's post, which depicted the Strait of Hormuz as US territory, stating: "Just as Trump correctly spelled the name of the Persian Gulf, his misconception regarding the Strait of Hormuz will either be corrected soon, or we will correct the mistakes of this misguided individual."
The controversy stems from a post on the "Truth Social" platform, where US President Donald Trump shared a map of the Strait of Hormuz with the caption "New US Territory." This incident has further heightened geopolitical tensions in the Persian Gulf region, a critical maritime chokepoint for global energy supplies. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important oil transit corridors, and any claims of sovereignty over these international waters by major powers are typically viewed by regional states as significant provocations that threaten maritime security and international law.
