A total of 192 people were evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan between 08:00 on February 28, 2026, and 22:00 on March 1, 2026, amid escalating regional tensions. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Report, the group consists of 82 Azerbaijani citizens and 110 foreign nationals representing 19 different countries.
The breakdown of evacuated foreign nationals includes 28 citizens from Pakistan, 18 from Saudi Arabia, 18 from China, 17 from Tajikistan, 6 from the UAE, 4 from Jordan, 3 from Qatar, 3 from Bangladesh, 2 from the Philippines, and 2 from Nepal. Additionally, one citizen each from Turkey, Russia, Italy, Poland, Tunisia, Lebanon, India, France, and Brazil was safely transported to Azerbaijani territory. Within the last 24 hours alone, 123 individuals crossed into Azerbaijan through the "Astara" border checkpoint, where Azerbaijani authorities provided all necessary conditions and logistics for their safe passage.
The evacuation comes in response to a significant escalation in military conflict within the region. On February 28, the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran, conducting airstrikes on various cities across the republic. In retaliation, Iranian forces launched missile strikes toward Israeli territory and targeted fourteen US military bases located in Persian Gulf countries. Due to the volatile security situation, several countries in the Middle East have temporarily closed their airspace, making land corridors through Azerbaijan a critical route for international evacuations.
