Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has publicly addressed the country's strategic position regarding the Strait of Hormuz during a recent meeting with a visiting Chinese delegation in Tehran.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Ghalibaf met with Chinese officials who were in the Iranian capital to attend a memorial ceremony for the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. During the discussions, Ghalibaf emphasized the historical support Beijing has provided to Tehran during challenging periods.
The Speaker highlighted that Iran has consistently ensured the safe passage of Chinese vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, even during times of conflict and ceasefire. He underscored the necessity of strengthening political and economic ties between Iran and China as a countermeasure against the unilateral policies of the United States.
Addressing the management of the Strait of Hormuz, Ghalibaf reiterated Iran's determination to uphold its sovereign rights in the region. He explicitly stated that Iran would not permit any interference by the United States in this vital maritime corridor.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as a primary route for global oil shipments. Control over this waterway has long been a focal point of geopolitical tension, with Iran frequently asserting its security role in the area to deter foreign military presence.
