Iran has issued a stern warning to the United States, threatening to target the US Navy if it approaches the Strait of Hormuz. This escalation follows Washington's announcement regarding support for vessels navigating the strategic waterway, which has triggered a sharp response from official Tehran.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Iranian military stated that any approach by American naval forces to the designated region would result in immediate targeting and the application of military force. The statement emphasizes that the Iranian armed forces are prepared to respond to what they perceive as a provocation in their territorial and adjacent waters.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most vital maritime chokepoints, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's oil consumption passes. Tensions in the region have historically impacted global energy markets and maritime security. Under the administration of US President Donald Trump, the United States has maintained a firm policy of ensuring freedom of navigation in international waters, a stance that frequently leads to friction with Iranian naval assets in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
