The maritime blockade imposed by the United States has not significantly impacted Iran's food supply, according to official statements.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Iran's Minister of Agriculture, Gholamreza Nouri, addressed the current situation regarding the country's food security. The minister stated that despite the maritime restrictions enforced by the U.S., the supply of essential goods and food products to the country remains stable and without serious disruption.
Nouri emphasized that Iran's domestic production capabilities and alternative import routes allow the situation to remain under control. "Despite the US maritime blockade, we have no problems with the supply of essential goods and food products. Thanks to the country's vast territory, we are able to import through various border crossing points," the minister said. He added that while the current circumstances might lead to certain price increases, overall food security is not at risk. According to the minister, approximately 85 percent of food products are provided through domestic production, ensuring the agricultural sector remains resilient.
The maritime blockade against Iranian ports has been a point of intense friction, with Tehran officially condemning the move as a violation of international norms. This development comes as US President Donald Trump continues to apply a maximum pressure policy through various economic and maritime restrictions. The agricultural sector in the region has increasingly focused on self-sufficiency to mitigate the impact of such external pressures, a strategy Tehran has prioritized to maintain internal stability amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions.
