Iranian officials have requested additional time from Pakistani mediators to evaluate terms proposed by the United States aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in the Gulf region.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Qatar's Al Jazeera television channel reported the development, citing a source in Pakistan. The report indicates that Iran's stock of enriched uranium remains the primary obstacle in indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

A spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Thursday that Tehran is currently reviewing comments from the U.S. side regarding a proposal to cease military hostilities. According to reports from the Tasnim agency on May 18, Pakistan has already submitted a new 14-point Iranian proposal to U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to facilitate a resolution to the standoff.

The diplomatic maneuvering comes at a critical juncture for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal. Since U.S. President Donald Trump took office in January 2025, the administration has maintained a firm stance on regional security and non-proliferation, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive agreement that addresses both nuclear enrichment and ballistic missile programs. Pakistan has frequently acted as a diplomatic bridge between the two nations, seeking to de-escalate tensions that impact broader Middle Eastern stability and global energy markets.
