President Ilham Aliyev has signed an order approving the "Action Plan regarding the declaration of 2026 as the 'Year of Urban Planning and Architecture' in the Republic of Azerbaijan."
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that according to the decree, the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan is tasked with coordinating the measures provided for in the Action Plan and overseeing their implementation. Furthermore, the Cabinet of Ministers has been directed to resolve all matters arising from this order.
The declaration of 2026 as the "Year of Urban Planning and Architecture" aligns with Azerbaijan's ongoing large-scale reconstruction efforts and sustainable development goals. This initiative is expected to accelerate the modernization of urban infrastructure across the country, particularly focusing on the integration of "smart city" and "smart village" concepts. The Action Plan serves as a strategic roadmap to showcase Azerbaijan's architectural heritage while implementing contemporary urban solutions in Baku and the liberated territories, including Shusha and Khankendi.
