İlham Əliyev: Azərbaycan özünü mal əti ilə 84 % təmin edir

Azerbaijan meets 84 percent of its domestic beef demand, Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing President Ilham Aliyev's statement during a government meeting dedicated to agricultural issues.

The head of state provided a detailed breakdown of the country's self-sufficiency rates in key food products. According to President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan produces 150,000 tons of beef locally while importing 30,000 tons. The country's poultry production stands at 147,000 tons (82 percent self-sufficiency), with 32,000 tons imported. For mutton and goat meat, domestic production reaches 88,000 tons, covering 94 percent of the market, with only 5,000 tons imported.

"We produce 2.34 billion eggs, meaning there is no need for imports, and we export 90 million eggs. Our self-sufficiency in fish and fish products is at 81 percent, with 23,000 tons imported and 7,000 tons exported. We meet 52 percent of our vegetable oil needs, producing 56,000 tons and importing 62,000 tons. Butter self-sufficiency is at 62 percent, with 26,000 tons produced locally, 20,000 tons imported, and 4,000 tons exported," the President said.

President Ilham Aliyev also highlighted statistics for other essential goods, noting that Azerbaijan meets 86 percent of its tea demand, producing 11,000 tons, importing 2.5 thousand tons, and exporting nearly 1,000 tons. "We are fully self-sufficient in salt, exporting 20,000 tons with a domestic production of 80,000 tons. Flour self-sufficiency is at 95 percent, with 1.364 million tons produced locally. Pasta products stand at 89 percent self-sufficiency. Meanwhile, we meet 102 percent of our sugar demand and export 96,000 tons. I present these figures to invite investors to contribute to local production in areas where we still rely on imports," the head of state added.

Ensuring national food security remains a key priority for the government of Azerbaijan. In recent years, the country has accelerated agricultural reforms, expanded state subsidies for farmers, and promoted the adoption of modern irrigation technologies to boost domestic yields and reduce vulnerability to global supply chain disruptions.
