Azerbaijan's wrestling traditions are being preserved and strengthened through consistent success on the international stage, President Ilham Aliyev stated. The head of state made these remarks during a meeting in Baku with the members of the national wrestling team and their coaches following their victory in the team standings at the European Championship.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the importance of continuity in the sport. "I am glad that along with well-known wrestlers, our young wrestlers also achieve great results. This shows that the training process and selection process are correctly established," the President noted, praising the strategic approach to sports development in Azerbaijan.
Wrestling is considered one of the national sports of Azerbaijan, with a history deeply rooted in the country's culture. Over the past two decades, Azerbaijan has emerged as a global powerhouse in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, consistently securing medals at the Olympic Games, World Championships, and European Championships. The state's investment in modern training facilities and the establishment of regional sports centers have played a pivotal role in maintaining this competitive edge and fostering a new generation of athletes.
