The support garnered from the vast majority of countries worldwide is fundamentally rooted in Azerbaijan's significant achievements. This was stated by President Ilham Aliyev during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group held in Baku, according to the Operative Information Center-OMM.
According to the President, Azerbaijan has secured the support of the international community through its pursuit of an independent foreign policy. "The number of our friends is growing year by year. It is clearly visible that our candidacy has been included in the lists of various nominations. We have received comprehensive support," the head of state emphasized.
President Ilham Aliyev also highlighted the country's diplomatic successes regarding UN Security Council candidacies and its leadership roles. "We won the support of 155 countries. We witnessed this when we became the chair of the Non-Aligned Movement. We were elected, and our chairmanship was extended. This is the greatest manifestation of international support. While some developed countries strive to monopolize certain narratives, the UN member states constitute the foundation of the entire international community," he added.
The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group's Annual Meetings serve as a critical platform for fostering economic cooperation and sustainable development among member states. By hosting such high-level international events, Azerbaijan continues to strengthen its position as a reliable global partner and a hub for international diplomacy, further solidifying its reputation following the successful hosting of COP29.
