The United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence has reported the loss of more than 1,000 mobile devices and laptops over the past two years, according to international media reports.

The financial impact of these losses is estimated to exceed 1.6 million pounds sterling (approximately 2.15 million dollars). Official data indicates that between January 2024 and March 2026, the ministry lost 545 laptops and 744 mobile phones, none of which have been recovered.

Of the missing hardware, 132 laptops and 36 mobile phones were confirmed as stolen, while the remainder were reported as misplaced by department personnel. Replacing these lost assets is expected to cost the ministry approximately 1.64 million pounds sterling.

The incident has sparked significant criticism from opposition parties, who have described the situation as a "security crisis" within the Ministry of Defence. They have called on Defence Secretary John Healey to take immediate action to address the lapses in asset management and security protocols.

The UK Ministry of Defence is responsible for the defense of the United Kingdom and its interests, managing a vast network of personnel and sensitive data. The loss of such a significant volume of hardware raises concerns regarding data security and the protection of classified information, as mobile devices often contain access to internal communications and sensitive government networks.
