Poland has secured preliminary approval from the US State Department to manufacture missiles for the Patriot air defense system.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this was announced by Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk.
“We have received preliminary approval from the US to produce missiles for the Patriot system. These missiles will be produced by Poland's defense industry. There are sufficient production capabilities for this on Polish territory,” he noted.
According to Tomczyk, a joint consortium could be established between Poland and the United States for the production of these missiles.
“Both Poles and Americans can benefit from this project because it is about joint production,” he added.
The preliminary agreement was reached during a visit to the United States in May by Polish Deputy Defense Ministers Cezary Tomczyk and Pawel Zalewski. The initiative specifically concerns the co-production of PAC-3 MSE (Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement) long-range missile interceptors.
The Patriot air defense system, developed by US defense contractors, is a cornerstone of NATO's integrated air and missile defense. Poland's move to localize the production of these advanced interceptors aligns with its broader military modernization efforts and strategy to strengthen its domestic defense industrial base amid heightened regional security concerns in Eastern Europe.
