International experts have been invited to Baku to assist in the restoration and monitoring of a section of the Icherisheher fortress walls following partial erosion. The team will work alongside local specialists to assess the structural integrity of the historic site and implement necessary stabilization measures.

Rufat Mahmud, Chairman of the Board of the "Icherisheher" State Historical-Architectural Reserve Administration, told Operative Information Center-OMM that engineering and expertise assessments are currently underway. "Specialists and state agencies are continuing research and stabilization work in a coordinated manner. I can also state that under the current circumstances, there is no additional threat to the fortress walls," Mahmud emphasized, noting that the historic fortifications are under constant monitoring.

The erosion was initially detected on April 9 along Kichik Gala Street, specifically at the intersection of towers 13 and 14. According to preliminary expert findings, the primary causes of the wear are humidity resulting from continuous atmospheric precipitation and natural erosion processes. Icherisheher, often referred to as the Old City, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and represents the most ancient part of Baku. The fortress walls, which date back to the 12th century, serve as a vital cultural landmark in Azerbaijan, reflecting the country's rich medieval architectural history and urban planning.
