Italy aims to strengthen its long-term strategic partnership with Azerbaijan, focusing on key sectors of mutual interest.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni shared these remarks on her X social media account following the conclusion of her visit to Azerbaijan on May 4.
"I visited Baku to strengthen a strategic partnership that has concrete and long-term value for Italy. With Azerbaijan, we want to strengthen significant cooperation in the fields of energy, security, connectivity, investment, and political dialogue, increasingly turning it into concrete opportunities for our peoples," she wrote.
Meloni further noted that in challenging times like the present, it is particularly important to remain committed to shared goals, one of which is the robust relationship between Italy and Azerbaijan.
Italy remains Azerbaijan's top trading partner in the European Union, largely driven by the energy sector. The Southern Gas Corridor, specifically the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), plays a critical role in ensuring Italy's energy security by delivering natural gas from the Caspian Sea directly to Italian shores. Beyond energy, the two nations have recently expanded their cooperation into areas such as infrastructure development, defense industry, and academic exchanges, solidifying a comprehensive strategic partnership that serves as a bridge between the South Caucasus and Europe.
