Berlin evaluates participation in US-led international initiative for lasting Middle East resolution

The German government has received an invitation from US President Donald Trump to participate in the international "Peace Council" for Gaza.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Stefan Cornelius, the official representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers, announced this during a briefing.

Cornelius noted that Berlin intends to contribute to a long-term resolution of the conflict: "The United States has invited Germany and other states to participate in the creation of an international 'Peace Council.' We are grateful for this invitation," he stated. According to the spokesperson, the German side is currently discussing with the US and other partners the specific ways to achieve this objective.

The German official also stated that he does not share concerns that the newly created structure would undermine the authority of the United Nations (UN). He emphasized that the UN remains the central multilateral structure for resolving international crises and serves as a vital tool during periods of global instability.

The establishment of the "Peace Council" comes as part of a broader diplomatic push by the administration of US President Donald Trump to stabilize the Middle East through direct multilateral engagement. Germany's potential involvement underscores the importance of European cooperation in US-led peace initiatives. Historically, Germany has maintained a significant role in humanitarian aid and diplomatic mediation in the region, consistently advocating for a two-state solution and regional security frameworks.
