German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has acknowledged significant progress in the Ukraine conflict following the direct intervention of US President Donald Trump.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the RND publication, Pistorius stated that the American leader has brought substantial momentum to the peace negotiation process.
"It must be admitted that the US President has given an impetus to peace negotiations," Pistorius remarked.
However, the minister also noted that Washington's simultaneous activity across several foreign policy fronts might be linked to a desire to divert attention from domestic economic and political challenges within the United States. Despite these reservations, the German official emphasized the visible shift in the diplomatic landscape since the US administration's renewed engagement.
The statement follows a recent announcement by US President Donald Trump, who revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to a temporary halt of strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities due to severe cold weather conditions. The American leader noted that he personally appealed to Putin and expressed satisfaction that the Russian side responded positively to this request. This development is seen as a potential opening for broader de-escalation talks between the warring parties.
Since taking office in January 2025, US President Donald Trump has prioritized a swift resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, positioning the United States as a primary mediator. These diplomatic efforts come at a critical time for European security, as NATO allies and EU member states, including Germany, seek a sustainable peace framework that ensures regional stability and respects international law.
