France is preparing to decline participation in the "Peace Council" established by US President Donald Trump for the post-conflict settlement in the Gaza Strip.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this information was released by the Reuters agency, citing a source close to French President Emmanuel Macron.

According to the source, official Paris is concerned that this initiative calls into question the global role of the United Nations. It was noted that the status of the international organization must remain inviolable. According to reports from The Financial Times, the White House views this council as a potential alternative to the UN. Washington is expected to expand the council's mandate to include other conflict zones, such as Ukraine and Venezuela.

The establishment of the "Peace Council" comes as part of US President Donald Trump's broader foreign policy strategy to streamline international mediation efforts outside of traditional multilateral frameworks. Since taking office in January 2025, US President Donald Trump has emphasized bilateral and ad-hoc coalition-based diplomacy to address global crises. The initiative has sparked significant debate among European allies regarding the future of collective security and the central role of the UN Security Council in maintaining international peace and order.
