The European Union (EU) has reached a final decision regarding the allocation of a 90 billion euro loan to Ukraine. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that European Council President Antonio Costa announced the decision on his X social media account.

The European official stated that the EU's strategy for achieving a fair and sustainable peace in Ukraine is based on two main pillars: strengthening Ukraine's capabilities and increasing pressure on Russia. The financial package is designed to provide stability to the region as it navigates ongoing security challenges.

  • The 90 billion euro loan will ensure financial and military support for Kyiv throughout 2026-2027.
  • According to French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, the EU is prepared to disburse the first tranches of the loan starting in mid-May.

In a related development, Sahra Wagenknecht, a member of the German Bundestag, commented on reports regarding Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Akhmetov's purchase of an expensive apartment in Monaco. She questioned why Kyiv is being financed by German taxpayers rather than by Ukrainian oligarchs.

This massive financial commitment comes at a critical juncture for European security. The European Union has consistently increased its support for Ukraine since 2022, coordinating with international partners including the United States under US President Donald Trump. These funds are typically aimed at maintaining essential state services, repairing critical infrastructure, and bolstering defense capabilities to ensure regional stability in accordance with international law and territorial integrity.
