European Union ambassadors have reached a landmark agreement to provide a 90 billion euro loan to Ukraine and implement a 20th package of sanctions against Russia. The decision was finalized following Hungary's withdrawal of its previous veto, signaling a significant shift in the bloc's financial and diplomatic support for Kyiv amidst the ongoing conflict.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the breakthrough occurred after resolutions were found regarding the Druzhba oil pipeline. Hungary had previously blocked the initiatives in response to Ukraine halting the transit of Russian oil. However, on April 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the completion of repairs on the pipeline, which Kyiv stated had been damaged by Russian military actions. The Hungarian oil company MOL confirmed that crude oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia are expected to resume no later than April 23.

This financial package represents one of the largest single commitments by the European Union to support Ukraine's economic stability and reconstruction efforts. The 20th sanctions package further aims to tighten restrictions on Moscow's energy and technology sectors, reflecting the EU's continued strategy of economic pressure. The resolution of the Druzhba pipeline dispute also highlights the complex energy interdependencies within Central Europe and the critical role of transit infrastructure in regional diplomacy.
