Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to visit Qatar to offer his condolences following the passing of the country's former Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing an official statement from the Turkish Presidential Administration, President Erdogan will travel to Doha on July 14, 2026, to pay his respects.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, 74, passed away on July 13 after a prolonged illness. He has been laid to rest at the Lusail Cemetery in Doha. In response to the passing of the former leader, Qatar has declared a four-day period of official mourning.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani served as the Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013. He is widely recognized for modernizing the nation's economy and infrastructure during his tenure. In 2013, he voluntarily abdicated the throne, transferring power to his son, the current Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, marking a significant and peaceful transition of power in the Gulf region.
