Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has signaled the possibility of military intervention against Israel, raising the prospect of deploying troops to the region to address the ongoing conflict.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Erdogan made these remarks while responding to questions from journalists regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank.

The Turkish leader emphasized that Turkey could take military steps to prevent the displacement of the Palestinian population from their ancestral lands. "Just as we entered Garabagh and Libya, we can do the same to them," Erdogan stated, as quoted by The Jerusalem Post, referring to Turkey's previous military involvements in regional conflicts.

The statement drew immediate and sharp criticism from Israeli officials. Israel's Minister of Heritage, Amichai Eliyahu, condemned the remarks, describing Erdogan as a leader with imperialist ambitions and calling for a severance of diplomatic ties. Furthermore, on Saturday, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his stance on regional negotiations and his rhetoric directed at the Turkish leadership.

Turkey's reference to Garabagh pertains to its political and military support for Azerbaijan during the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020, which resulted in the liberation of occupied territories. In Libya, Turkey provided military assistance to the UN-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA). These precedents are often cited by Ankara as examples of its capacity to project power and influence geopolitical outcomes in its surrounding neighborhood.
