Approximately 90 percent of the 4,200 schools operating in Azerbaijan have been either newly built or fundamentally renovated over the past 20 years, while work on schools in disrepair continues in stages. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev made these remarks during a statement to journalists.
The minister emphasized that the current priority is the repair and reconstruction of larger educational facilities that accommodate a higher number of students. For smaller communities, the ministry is implementing the construction of modular buildings. Amrullayev noted that more than 100 modular schools are scheduled for construction in various regions of Azerbaijan throughout the current year to ensure modern educational standards are met nationwide.
The modernization of educational infrastructure is a key component of Azerbaijan's state strategy to improve the quality of education and ensure equal access for students in remote areas. Modular schools, which can be assembled quickly and cost-effectively, have become a vital solution for villages with smaller populations. This initiative aligns with the broader state programs for the socio-economic development of regions, which have seen significant investment in public infrastructure across the Republic of Azerbaijan over the last two decades.
