At least 15 people have been killed and three others injured following a severe road accident in the Badakhshan province of northeastern Afghanistan.

Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Tolonews television channel, reports that a vehicle traveling along the Bharak-Arghanvah road lost control and plunged into a deep ravine.

According to official statements from local authorities, the victims include six children, five women, and four men. In a particularly devastating detail, five members of a single family were among the deceased, with only one young child from that family surviving the crash. The injured have been transported to nearby medical facilities with various degrees of physical trauma.

Road accidents are frequent in Afghanistan, often attributed to the country's challenging mountainous terrain, poorly maintained infrastructure, and a lack of modern safety regulations. Badakhshan, a remote and rugged province, is particularly prone to such incidents due to its narrow, unpaved roads and steep cliffs. Local officials confirmed that an investigation into the specific cause of this accident is currently underway.
