Parvana Valiyeva, a member of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) Health Committee, has been elected as the co-chair of the Global TB Caucus for the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region for the next four years.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the leadership of the Global TB Caucus has officially confirmed the appointment. Valiyeva will represent a region that includes Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Armenia.
The Global TB Caucus is an international platform of parliamentarians dedicated to the fight against tuberculosis. Bringing together more than 3,000 parliamentarians from 161 countries, the organization promotes the active role of lawmakers in eliminating the disease. The members represented in the caucus are typically influential figures within their respective national parliaments' health commissions.
This appointment underscores Azerbaijan's growing role in international health diplomacy and its commitment to addressing global health challenges. The Eastern Europe and Central Asia region remains a priority area for the caucus, focusing on legislative reforms, increased funding for healthcare, and the implementation of sustainable strategies to eradicate tuberculosis in accordance with international health standards.
