A member of Iran's Temporary Leadership Council, Ayatollah Arafi, has made his first public statement following his appointment, addressing regional security and the country's internal governance.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Fars news agency, reports that Arafi characterized recent actions by the United States and Israel as a significant strategic mistake. He asserted that both nations have committed a major "calculation error" by organizing specific attacks against Iranian interests.
Emphasizing the high state of national defense readiness, Arafi provided details on the transition of power within the Islamic Republic:
“The Assembly of Experts will act immediately to accelerate the process of selecting a new leader. Until a new head is chosen, the Temporary Leadership Council will hold regular meetings to manage state affairs. All structures of the country are at the service of the people and the armed forces.”
The council member further addressed the Iranian public and the military, assuring them that the state stands firmly behind them and that national stability will be maintained. This transition period comes at a time of heightened geopolitical sensitivity in the Middle East, where Iran's leadership structure plays a pivotal role in regional dynamics.
The Temporary Leadership Council is a constitutional body designed to ensure the continuity of state functions during a leadership vacuum. Under the Iranian political system, the Assembly of Experts is the deliberative body empowered to appoint the Supreme Leader, a position that holds ultimate authority over the country's armed forces, judiciary, and foreign policy. The current transition is being closely monitored by international observers for its potential impact on regional security and diplomatic relations.
