Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received Vahid Jalalzadeh, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in Baku on January 23. The meeting focused on the current state of bilateral relations and the evolving regional security landscape.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) stated that the officials engaged in a detailed exchange of views regarding the Azerbaijan–Iran bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda. Discussions also covered recent tensions within Iran and broader regional processes. Deputy Minister Jalalzadeh briefed the Azerbaijani side on the current situation and recent developments in Iran. Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to maintaining stability in Iran and expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during recent events.
The meeting highlighted the critical role of high-level contacts, mutual visits, and sustained political dialogue between the heads of state in fostering friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Iran. Both parties positively assessed the activities of the State Commission on economic, trade, and humanitarian spheres. Furthermore, the ministers discussed prospects for cooperation in transport and communications, noting that joint projects implemented by Azerbaijan and Iran play a vital role in the development of international transport corridors passing through the region.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Iran have historically been shaped by shared borders and economic interests, particularly in the development of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC). This meeting follows a series of efforts by both nations to strengthen regional connectivity and address security challenges in the South Caucasus. Azerbaijan continues to pursue a balanced foreign policy aimed at ensuring regional peace and fostering economic integration with its neighbors.
