Czechia will not permit the European Union to impose additional trade sanctions against Israel and is prepared to block such measures if necessary, Foreign Minister Petr Macinka has announced.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Foreign Minister emphasized that Prague would veto any attempts to cancel or freeze the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
"We will not allow additional trade sanctions against Israel. Of course, we will also not permit the cancellation or freezing of the EU-Israel Association Agreement," he stated.
Macinka further noted that Czechia insists no Israeli politicians should be subject to sanctions, highlighting the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.
"Israel has many enemies and few friends, but I think Czechia is one of Israel's friends," the Foreign Minister added.
The minister also called for the expedited relocation of the Czech embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, noting that while he personally supports the move, the final decision rests with the Czech government. This diplomatic stance reinforces Prague's position as one of Israel's most consistent supporters within the European bloc.
Czechia's pro-Israel policy often aligns with the diplomatic direction of major international partners. Notably, US President Donald Trump previously recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, a move that has influenced the foreign policy considerations of several European nations. The EU-Israel Association Agreement, which Prague seeks to protect, serves as the legal basis for relations between the union and Israel, covering trade, political dialogue, and economic cooperation.
