Officers from the Astara Customs Department of the State Customs Committee have successfully intercepted a significant quantity of narcotics, specifically dried marijuana, preventing its illegal circulation, according to the Operative Information Center-OMM.
The incident occurred at the Astara customs post, where a vehicle transporting a shipment of peppers from Iran to Russia via transit through Azerbaijan was subjected to a thorough inspection. The operation utilized stationary X-ray equipment and a canine unit to ensure comprehensive screening.
During the inspection, authorities discovered 55 rectangular packages concealed beneath the layers of peppers. The total net weight of the seized dried marijuana amounted to 25 kilograms and 75 grams.
Azerbaijan continues to strengthen its border security measures to combat international drug trafficking, particularly along its southern borders. The State Customs Committee remains vigilant in monitoring transit routes to prevent the smuggling of illicit substances. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
