Officers from the Astara Customs Department of the State Customs Committee have successfully intercepted and seized a significant quantity of narcotics, specifically dried marijuana, following a comprehensive search and customs control operation.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing official committee sources, the incident occurred at the Astara customs post. A vehicle transporting a cargo of fresh cauliflower from Iran to Russia, transiting through the territory of Azerbaijan, was subjected to a thorough inspection using stationary X-ray equipment and specialized canine units.
During the inspection, authorities discovered 160 packages concealed within a single pallet. The packages had been meticulously shaped to resemble cauliflower heads to evade customs detection. The total net weight of the seized dried marijuana amounted to 90 kilograms and 945 grams.
Azerbaijan frequently serves as a transit route for international trade between the Middle East and Europe. Consequently, the State Customs Committee maintains rigorous border security protocols to combat the illegal trafficking of controlled substances, often utilizing advanced scanning technology and canine detection teams to secure the country's borders against transnational organized crime.
