Hundreds of migrants who entered the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta, located on the North African coast, have begun voluntarily returning to Morocco. The situation at the border remains fluid as authorities manage the complex movement of people.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, which cites reports from the EFE news agency, migrants are crossing back through the same points where they initially entered Spanish territory.
Reports from the scene indicate a contradictory situation: while groups of migrants are moving back toward Morocco, smaller groups are simultaneously attempting to enter Ceuta, leading to encounters between the two flows of people on the same routes.
On July 30, thousands of migrants attempted to cross the Spanish border in a mass effort. The attempts, conducted via both land and sea, resulted in casualties. Preliminary reports indicate that at least 18 people lost their lives during the crossing attempts.
Ceuta, along with Melilla, serves as one of the two Spanish autonomous cities on the North African coast. These territories are the only land borders between the European Union and the African continent, making them frequent focal points for migration crises and diplomatic tensions between Spain and Morocco regarding border control and security management.
