Azerbaijan has taken important steps to advance the peace process with Armenia.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov made the remarks to journalists in Baku during the high-level opening ceremony of the Fourth Climate Week of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (CW4).

"As noted in the joint statement signed in Washington, after the initialling of the peace agreement, the necessary steps must be taken to complete the process. One of these steps is holding a referendum in Armenia and amending its constitution. We are receiving various messages from Armenia on this issue. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is also issuing new messages about the plans. Our position on this matter remains unchanged. These steps are essential for the signing of the peace agreement," the minister stressed.

Constitutional provisions and their potential implications for interstate relations have remained among the issues discussed in the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process. A peace agreement would require the parties to fulfill the commitments set out in the relevant documents and statements.
