Baku's public transportation network, encompassing the metro, buses, railways, airport express routes, and taxi services, is fully prepared to facilitate seamless movement across the capital. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Baku Metro CJSC has confirmed that various payment methods are available for commuters, including the physical BakiKart, mobile applications, QR tickets, and NFC contactless payments.
The implementation of NFC-based payment technology in the Baku Metro began last year through a partnership with K-Group LLC (BakiKart) and local banks. Since its launch, approximately 31 million passengers have utilized NFC services, which now represent roughly 29% of all fare transactions within the system. For participants of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), the Koroglu station has been identified as the primary transit point for the event venue. The metro operates daily from 06:00 to 00:00, and the "Accessible Metro" service remains available to assist passengers with disabilities.
The World Urban Forum, established by the United Nations, is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. Azerbaijan's hosting of WUF13 underscores the country's growing role in international urban development dialogue and its commitment to modernizing infrastructure. In recent years, Baku has significantly upgraded its transport ecosystem, integrating digital solutions to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of its transit corridors for both residents and international visitors.
