Construction work in front of a new "Baku Electronics" store in the city of Khirdalan has triggered significant dissatisfaction among local residents and pedestrians.
According to reports received by the Operative Information Center-OMM, video footage shows that a new staircase is being built at the entrance of the store, effectively occupying a portion of the sidewalk intended for pedestrian traffic.
Reports indicate that the facility already features two existing staircases. The construction of a third, additional staircase has further narrowed the pedestrian path, creating significant obstacles for the elderly, parents with strollers, and individuals with limited mobility.
In response to these concerns, we submitted an inquiry to the "Baku Electronics" press service, requesting clarification on the legal basis for the construction, the existence of necessary permits, and the necessity of the additional staircase.
However, company representative Nigar Zeynalova refused to answer the questions, citing that she was currently on vacation. When asked to provide contact information for another authorized official, the representative expressed dissatisfaction and stated that no response would be provided to the inquiry.
Furthermore, we submitted an official inquiry to the Absheron District Executive Authority to investigate the claims regarding the obstruction of the pedestrian sidewalk and the legality of the construction work. This inquiry also remains unanswered.
Consequently, both the company conducting the construction and the relevant government body responsible for overseeing the area have failed to address public concerns. The core issue remains: if the construction, which involves occupying part of the sidewalk, is being conducted within the framework of the law, why are the relevant permits and legal grounds not being disclosed to the public?
This matter extends beyond a single staircase; it concerns the public's right to safe and unobstructed movement on daily pedestrian routes. The silence from both the relevant authorities and the company raises further questions regarding transparency. We remain prepared to publish the positions of both "Baku Electronics" and the Absheron District Executive Authority as this issue continues to develop.
