The Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan has successfully halted unauthorized construction activities at several protected architectural monuments in Baku. This intervention follows a series of reports regarding illegal modifications to historic structures within the capital.
According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office, the action was initiated following notifications from the Ministry of Culture. The Ministry reported that repair, restoration, and reconstruction works were being conducted without the necessary legal approvals on state-protected cultural heritage sites located in the Nasimi and Khazar districts of Baku.
The investigation, conducted by the Department for Non-Criminal Proceedings of the Prosecutor General's Office, confirmed that unauthorized reconstruction was underway at non-residential properties classified as local architectural monuments on Nizami Street 81 and Bulbul Avenue 36C in the Nasimi district. Similar violations were identified at a mosque in the Buzovna settlement of the Khazar district, which is also registered as a local architectural monument.
As a result of these findings, the Prosecutor General's Office has issued formal warnings to the individuals responsible for the violations to prevent any recurrence. These measures are part of broader efforts by the Azerbaijani government to preserve the nation's architectural heritage and ensure strict adherence to urban planning and cultural protection laws in Baku.
