Officers of the Main Drug Control Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have seized 71 kilograms of narcotics during special operations conducted in Baku. Three individuals, identified as Javid Zamanov, Ehtiram Abdullayev, and Ilkin Bakhshiyev, were detained as part of the measures to prevent the illegal circulation of drugs in the capital.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM citing the MIA, the seized substances included opium, marijuana enriched with harmful additives, and 13,000 methadone pills. Investigations revealed that the detainees were acting as drug couriers under the instructions of foreign drug traffickers. Criminal cases have been initiated, and the suspects have been remanded in custody by court order as the MIA continues its efforts to dismantle illegal distribution networks.
Azerbaijan continues to intensify its fight against illegal drug trafficking, particularly focusing on transit paths used by international syndicates. The Ministry of Internal Affairs regularly conducts large-scale operations to prevent the smuggling of prohibited substances into Azerbaijan, emphasizing the protection of public health and national security. In recent years, Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies have significantly increased the volume of seized narcotics through enhanced border controls and domestic intelligence operations.
