The bodies of four Azerbaijani citizens who perished following the strikes on two foreign cargo vessels in the Sea of Azov on the night of June 5 are expected to be repatriated to Azerbaijan in the coming days.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this information was officially confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.

The Ministry stated that search and rescue operations have successfully recovered the remains of Qismat Aliyev (born 1969) and Fuad Orucov (born 1981).

"Following the completion of all necessary legal and administrative procedures, the remains of the four deceased Azerbaijani citizens, along with two other citizens currently in the city of Yeysk, are scheduled to be transported to Azerbaijan in the near future," the statement emphasized.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously reported that on June 5, drone attacks in the Sea of Azov targeted the cargo ships "Natra" and "Zirkon." Among the 25 Azerbaijani citizens aboard these vessels, four were injured and four lost their lives. The Ministry clarified that the vessels involved in the incident are not owned by the state of Azerbaijan.

The Sea of Azov has been a focal point of heightened tensions due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has significantly impacted commercial shipping lanes and maritime safety in the region. The Azerbaijani government continues to coordinate with relevant authorities to ensure the safe return of its citizens and provide necessary consular support.
