Azerbaijan is bracing for a significant rise in temperatures, with forecasts indicating that the mercury will climb to 38°C on June 19.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the National Hydrometeorological Service has issued a weather advisory regarding the upcoming heatwave.
In Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, the weather is expected to be predominantly dry, accompanied by a south-easterly wind. Nighttime temperatures are projected to range between 20-23°C, while daytime highs will reach 31-36°C. Atmospheric pressure is recorded at 759 mm Hg, with relative humidity levels fluctuating between 60-70% at night and 40-45% during the day.
Across most regions of Azerbaijan, dry weather is expected; however, meteorologists anticipate intermittent rain in some mountainous and foothill areas during the second half of the day. In isolated locations, there is a possibility of short-term intense rainfall, lightning, and hail. Fog is expected in some mountainous areas during the night and morning hours, with an easterly wind prevailing.
Temperature forecasts for the regions indicate nighttime lows of 20-24°C and daytime highs of 33-38°C. In mountainous areas, temperatures will be cooler, ranging from 10-15°C at night to 20-25°C during the day, with some areas reaching 27-30°C.
Context: Azerbaijan frequently experiences significant temperature fluctuations during the summer months due to its diverse geography, which ranges from subtropical zones to high-altitude mountainous terrain. The National Hydrometeorological Service regularly monitors these shifts to provide timely warnings, helping citizens and agricultural sectors prepare for extreme weather events such as heatwaves or sudden precipitation in mountainous regions.
