Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received a delegation led by Colombia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Juana Castro Santamaria on April 29. The meeting focused on the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Colombia.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as reported to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the officials exchanged views on expanding political dialogue and promoting economic and trade ties. Discussions covered tourism, visa liberalization, education, culture, and inter-parliamentary relations. Both sides emphasized the importance of cooperation in demining, noting that both nations face challenges related to landmines. Additionally, a new round of political consultations was held between Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov and his Colombian counterpart to further detail the roadmap for future cooperation.

The meeting comes as Azerbaijan prepares to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku this November. Azerbaijan has been increasingly active in diversifying its diplomatic outreach to Latin American nations, seeking mutual support within international organizations and sharing expertise in humanitarian demining—a critical issue for Azerbaijan following the restoration of its territorial integrity and the liberation of its lands.
