The Cabinet of Ministers has issued a statement regarding the decision to suspend the movement of trucks across the Azerbaijan-Iran state border.

According to information provided by the Cabinet of Ministers to Operative Information Center-OMM, the decision comes in response to recent security provocations. "As reported, on March 5, drone attacks targeting civilian infrastructure were carried out from Iranian territory against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan," the statement reads.

The official report noted that the Nakhchivan International Airport, a school, and other civilian sites came under fire from the Iranian side. The attacks resulted in injuries to several civilians and caused significant damage to the airport's terminal building. In light of the situation arising from these actions, which violate the norms and principles of international law, the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to temporarily and completely suspend the movement of all trucks, including those in transit, through all border crossing points on the Azerbaijan-Iran state border.

The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, an exclave of Azerbaijan, shares a significant border with Iran and has historically relied on transit routes through Iranian territory for regional connectivity. This suspension of transit marks a significant escalation in regional tensions, as Azerbaijan prioritizes the safety of its citizens and the integrity of its borders. The Cabinet of Ministers emphasized that such measures are necessary to ensure national security following the direct targeting of non-military facilities and international transportation hubs within the Republic of Azerbaijan.
