The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan has issued an urgent appeal to drivers ahead of the upcoming "Last Bell" and "Graduation Day" events scheduled at educational institutions across the country.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the ministry anticipates increased traffic intensity and a higher likelihood of irregular parking near schools and public gathering venues during these celebrations.
The ministry emphasized that such conditions can severely impede the response time of emergency vehicles, including fire trucks and rescue units. "In such situations, it is critical to recognize that failure to yield to special-purpose vehicles, combined with disorganized parking, hinders the operational response to fires, accidents, and other emergencies, thereby minimizing the ability to mitigate potential damage," the ministry stated.
The official statement further highlighted that parking vehicles in front of building entrances, on roadways, or near fire hydrants and water supply systems creates significant obstacles. These actions can prevent emergency crews from accessing water sources or maneuvering heavy equipment, potentially making rescue operations impossible in critical moments.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations calls on all drivers to strictly adhere to traffic regulations. Specifically, motorists must yield immediately to fire and rescue vehicles and ensure that parking is conducted only in designated areas, maintaining sufficient spacing to allow for the free movement of other vehicles.
It is important to note that under Azerbaijani legislation, drivers who fail to yield to emergency vehicles face legal liability. Beyond legal consequences, such actions carry a significant moral responsibility, as delays in reaching the scene of an incident can directly impact the ability to save lives and prevent further tragedy.
The "Last Bell" ceremony is a traditional event held annually in Azerbaijani schools to mark the end of the academic year, often involving large gatherings of students, parents, and teachers, which necessitates heightened public safety measures.
