Azerbaijani paratroopers in Turkiye: What happened at Anatolian Phoenix - 2026?

Azerbaijani paratroopers participating in the Anatolian Phoenix - 2026 international search and rescue exercises in Konya, Turkiye, have successfully neutralized simulated terrorists and captured a group leader during a high-profile operation.

The Ministry of Defense told Operative Information Center-OMM that according to the exercise plan, participants were briefed on safety regulations, task phases, and the specific terrain and climatic features of the operational zone.

Fast Rope operation: How the simulated terrorists were neutralized

Under the mission scenario, parachute-descent and search-and-rescue units executed a complex operation to locate and rescue a pilot from a simulated crash site. Specialists from the search-and-rescue service deployed to the area via helicopter using the "fast rope" technique, successfully neutralizing a group of simulated terrorists positioned in a building and capturing their leader.

In the subsequent phase of the operation, full control over the territory was established, and the pilot was safely evacuated. Following the successful execution of the task, the personnel extracted from the area by helicopter. Aviation assets involved in the drills provided air cover and fire support to ensure the effective implementation of the mission.

Significance of the exercises and international cooperation

The activities demonstrated the high level of professionalism of the personnel, as well as effective interoperability and coordination between the participating units. The Anatolian Phoenix exercises, hosted annually by the Turkish Armed Forces, serve as a critical platform for enhancing the combat readiness of search and rescue teams and fostering military cooperation between Azerbaijan, Turkiye, and other partner nations. Such drills are essential for refining joint response strategies against unconventional threats and improving tactical synchronization in complex environments.

The international exercise is scheduled to continue until April 17.
