Significant changes have been made to the rules for determining affiliation to the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, Prime Minister Ali Asadov has signed a corresponding decree to this effect.
Under the new decision, the status of individuals who were in military service in the country until the date the Law "On Citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan" came into force has been revised. Specifically, the military service period of these servicemen will now be officially recognized as a period of registration at the place of residence in Azerbaijan. This adjustment simplifies the legal process for establishing the citizenship of veterans and long-term residents who served in the armed forces during the early years of independence.
According to the update, references and documents issued by other special service bodies will now be taken as a basis in the documentation process, alongside the local branches of the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription. Moving forward, official documents provided by the State Security Service (SSS) or the Foreign Intelligence Service, which specify the period of military service, will be included in official inquiries regarding citizenship determination.
This legislative refinement aims to streamline administrative procedures within the Cabinet of Ministers' framework, ensuring that the rights of those who served in the defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan are fully protected. By integrating records from the State Security Service and other intelligence branches, the government ensures a more comprehensive and centralized approach to verifying residency and service history for citizenship applicants.
