Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to Azerbaijan, Etienne Berchtold.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Ambassador Berchtold presented a copy of his credentials to Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. The Minister congratulated the ambassador on his new appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for developing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Austria in political, economic, energy, transport, tourism, and humanitarian spheres. The significance of political dialogue was highlighted, with both sides noting the importance of reciprocal visits, political consultations, and inter-parliamentary relations in strengthening bilateral ties.
The discussions also covered cooperation within multilateral platforms, particularly the United Nations, the OSCE, and the European Union. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov reiterated his congratulations on Austria's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028, expressing hope for continued mutual cooperation.
The conversation further addressed the current state and development prospects of economic, energy, and transport cooperation, including strategic projects initiated and supported by Azerbaijan. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan plays a vital role in ensuring Europe's energy security, with both sides expressing satisfaction regarding the commencement of Azerbaijani natural gas supplies to Austria as of January this year.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also briefed the ambassador on the post-conflict situation in the region, the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the steps taken by Azerbaijan to ensure lasting peace and stability. Additionally, the large-scale restoration and reconstruction efforts underway in the liberated territories were highlighted.
Ambassador Etienne Berchtold stated that his country views Azerbaijan as an important and reliable partner. He affirmed his commitment to exerting every effort to further develop bilateral cooperation across all areas during his tenure.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Austria have historically been characterized by constructive dialogue, particularly in the energy sector, where Azerbaijan serves as a key supplier contributing to the diversification of Europe's energy resources.
