The normalization of discussions surrounding the deployment and potential use of nuclear weapons in Europe has become a significant point of concern for the Russian Federation. The rhetoric, which was once considered taboo, is increasingly being integrated into mainstream security debates across the continent.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Viktor Vasilyev, Russia's permanent representative to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), addressed these developments in a statement to the RIA Novosti news agency. Vasilyev emphasized that the discourse regarding the potential use of nuclear weapons has taken on a daily, routine character in several European capitals. He specifically noted that nations such as Finland, the Baltic states, and various Eastern European countries have signaled a willingness to host nuclear weapons or delivery systems on their sovereign territories. The Russian official cautioned that these nations appear to have disregarded the historical lessons and catastrophic humanitarian consequences of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki tragedies.

Furthermore, Gennady Gatilov, Russia's permanent representative to the UN office in Geneva, has warned that the evolving nuclear policies of European nations are escalating the risk of direct confrontation between nuclear-armed states. Gatilov alleged that the United Kingdom and France are quietly expanding their respective nuclear arsenals, a move he suggests further destabilizes the regional security architecture. The ongoing debate highlights the deepening geopolitical divide in Europe, where traditional security frameworks are being challenged by shifting military doctrines and heightened tensions between Russia and NATO-aligned countries.
